DubSpot Opens a Cafe

Copy_of_cover1_2Dubspot, a DJ, VJ and music production school, is opening a new cafe on 14th and 9th.  Scheduled to open September 4th, the cafe will feature "really good coffee from La Colombe," sandwiches and a juice bar.

The school, located directly upstairs, has been open since December.  In addition to music production and song writing classes, owner Dan Giove said some of the cooler companies around town hire them for team building exercises where corporate execs learn to compose and produce songs. They also provide DJs and equipment for special events.

But the most rewarding aspects of the business are the youth programs.  "We teach kids to DJ and produce music.  I have students from 10 years and up."  He compared it to learning public speaking, saying "Being a DJ is a form of creative expression.  It's like performing in front of an audience."  You can't force feed children violins and pianos, he said, but this makes music more accessible.
