The Brooklyn Academy of Music highlights the work of independent filmmaker and former Hotel Chelsea Resident, Shirley Clarke. BAM is screening her most well known works: a cinema verite-style adaptation of Jack Gelber's off-Broadway play, The Connection (1960), about drug addiction; The Cool World (1963) + Bridges-Go-Round, focusing on Harlem youth; and Lions Love (1969), in which Clarke plays herself and former resident Viva stars. DeeDee Halleck recalls visiting Shirley at the Chelsea. Former Resident Florence Turner's book, At The Chelsea, also contains stories about Shirley.

Last chance to catch James Paterson's drawings, paintings and animation at Bitforms. His father, Robert, came to town for the opening in July and stayed in 822 the room famed for being the site of the photo shoot for Madonna's Sex Book. Here's what Robert had to say about the Chelsea "We had an amazing time at the Chelsea and I plan to make it my regular stop. James liked it so much he would like to live there for a while. All his friends who dropped by felt the same so the old girl still has a pull. She may be a bit tired but she still has class as do her residents and staff."
