Members of the Chelsea Hotel community were shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of painter Irene Tschacbasov over the weekend. Irene had lived in the Chelsea for the past 50 years. We all admired Irene's quiet dignity. Her husband Nahum Tschabasov, also a painter, died in 1984. His work hangs in the lobby of the hotel to the left above the check-in desk.
Thanks to Elizabeth for sending the picture.
